How does hair removal with elos work?
Hair follicles are precisely targeted using the unique elos combination of bi-polar radio frequency and light energies. elos penetrates deep into the dermis, heating and treating the follicle with maximum effectiveness, for long lasting hair removal.
Is it safe?
me is the safest treatment for technological home hair removal.
elos technology is a unique combination of RF and IPL. Combining gentle pulses of two targeted energies enables better results that can be achieved with lower overall energy output and with the highest level of safety and comfort.
You will be able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment. elos technology offers superior results with the highest level of comfort and safety for the widest range of skin and hair colours.
When can I expect to see results?
To ensure permanent hair reduction results (up to 89% hair reduction after 4 treatments) - you must follow the full recommended guidelines of 4 treatments, with intervals of 2 weeks. Ensure that you treat each area for the stipulated time necessary (refer to instructions). In some cases, more than 4 treatments may be required, as physiological reaction varies from person to person. After the first 4 treatments you should treat your desired area as hair appears according to recommended treatment times to optimise the results. As you progress – you will notice longer and longer intervals between these touch up treatments.
What happens if I didn’t treat the first 4 treatments every 2 weeks according to the guidelines?
The recommended method of treatment has been proven in clinical trials, to promise the best results and your fastest way to permanently smooth skin. If used less often than every 2 weeks results may vary. It's never too late to get back to the suggested guidelines - perform a treatment in 2 week intervals until hair growth reduction is achieved (if a long break was taken it is recommended to restart the programme). Once hair re-growth is permanently reduced use the me for touch-ups as needed.
I used me last week and still see hair… why would this happen?
This may sometimes appear as hair can be growing up to two weeks after your last treatment as the hair shaft is casted out from the skin, the hair will actually fall out naturally. It’s also possible that some of your hair is still growing because it wasn’t affected by the treatment as a result of being in a hair growth cycles that is harder to treat. Alternatively, it may be that elos wasn't applied to all areas of your skin. Remember to treat the area according to the FULL time recommended passing on full surface to promise better results! (Please refer to the user guide)
How do you notice the hair has fallen out?
Hair reduction will not be noticed straight away unless you are using the epilator or shaver attachment. Typically, users are aware of hair loss within a week of their first treatment as you will notice less and less hair growth.
Are any preparations required prior to treatment?
There is no need for any gels pre-treatment. If you are not using the optional epilator or shaver attachment, you will need to shave the treatment area before using me. One of the biggest advantages with me is that it can be used as an"all in one" hair removal system if you chose to use the epilator or shaver accessories. As mepasses over the skin surface, hair can be simultaneously removed by a permanent solution (elos) and an immediate solution (the epilator or shaver accessories are sold separately).
Are there any side effects to using me?
At most removal of hair will cause a localised redness or minor irritation of the skin. This is a normal reaction and only lasts a short time. Although extremely unlikely, if you experience skin sensitivity that persists longer than 24 hours, please consult your doctor.
Does me harm the skin?
me is harmless to the skin as long as you follow the instructions.
Can I use me anywhere on my body?
me can safely be used by users with skin types 1-5 for hair removal treatment anywhere below the neck. Typically it is used to remove hair on the arms, legs, armpits, bikini area, legs, chest, abdomen and back. me can also be used by users with skin types 1-3 on the face below the cheekbones (i.e not suitable for the eyebrows), treatment of the face should NOT be carried out without using the facial kit included. Remember to read the user guide before using the me.
* Do not use me if you are skin type 6
Can I treat the hair on my upper lip?
Clinical trials have shown that me is safe for use on the face below the cheekbones for skin types 1-3 (i.e it should not be used to treat eyebrows) when used in conjunction with the facial kit included. The facial kit includes protective eyewear and full guidelines how to treat facial areas. It is not advised to treat facial areas without the facial kit. It is important to read fully the separate instructions for facial use. Treating hair on the face requires a different method to the rest of the body.
How do I select the right elos level?
To avoid unnecessary skin reactions, always first check the treatable skin types table (please refer to the user guide) and quick reference guide. If the treatment feels uncomfortable, reduce the elos level.
Is me for men too?
Yes! me is intended for safe and effective use on both men and women.
Does using me hurt?
Assuming the correct elos level was chosen according to your skin tone and the instructions were followed, using me should not be painful. Sometimes, a sensation of warmness or tickle may be felt. To get accustomed to elos energy, we advise that you make test flashes, using the lowest recommended elos level on any part of your body below the neck. Once you are comfortable with this you can increase the elos intensity setting.
Adding the epilator accessory to your device might add a small effect of prickling pain similar to other epilators in the market.
What happens when the me cartridge runs out?
One of the advantages of me is that the product is designed to make it very easy to replace the cartridge as required. The cartridges are available in larger Boots stores and from Boots.com. A new cartridge will provide 5400 elos pulses.
Should I wear eye protection when using me?
It is not necessary to wear eye protection when using me below the neckline. The light flash is similar to that of a professional camera flash, and the three way safety system prevents accidental activation of the elos pulses. However, when treating the face due to the proximity to the eyes the protective eyewear provided in the facial kit must be worn. NB me complies with safety standard EN60825-9.
What is the recommended minimum age?
me is suitable for use over the age of 12. Adult supervision is recommended for those under the age of 18.
What about epilepsy?
me creates flashes with far shorter intervals than IPL devices, it is therefore advised that you consult your doctor before using the product.
Can me be used on psoriasis/acne/eczema?
It is not advisable to treat skin with psoriasis, acne or eczema, or if the area is inflamed.
Can me be used on areas that have varicose veins?
No, it is not advisable to treat these areas.
Should I take precautions treating areas with moles, scars or birthmarks?
Yes, these areas should not be treated. Either cover the area with a plaster or use a white eyeliner to conceal the area of skin, alternatively, avoid these areas completely.
Can me be used on all skin types?
me is suitable for use on skin types 1-5, but is not suitable for use on skin type 6 (black skin). Please refer to the skin type guide which is on the box and also available in the ‘who can use me’ section of the product information area on Boots.com. For facial use, the product is only suitable for skin types 1-3 (please refer to the face kit user guide for more information).
>What products are recommended for use after treatment?
You may wish to use a aloe vera lotion after treatment to ensure the skin remains hydrated and fresh.
Is there a helpline if I need further advice?
Yes, please contact the Homedics helpline on 0203 302 0623 or send an email to meservice@homedics.co.uk
Where is it sold?
me is sold exclusively in the UK and Ireland by Boots. me and the accessories are available on Boots.com. me and the replacement cartridges are available from larger Boots stores.
Can I use me if I suffer from Diabetes?
While it may be possible to use me if you have diabetes assuming the underlying condition is adequately controlled, we strongly recommend that you consult your doctor first. Since the sensory nerves are compromised in diabetes there might be less sensation in the treatment area and therefore the user may lose an "early warning system" of excessive skin temperature that signals impending skin damage. Normal Skin recovery might also be compromised and thus might result in skin damage post treatment.
Can I use me if I suffer from endocrine disorders such as Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) or hyperthyroidism?
Patients with PCOD can use the me device, there is no increased incidence of any negative side effect. In non hormone sensitive anatomical areas such as the legs, groin, arms and axilla, there usually is no treatment result differential between the normal and PCOD population. However, in hormonally sensitive areas such as the face, chest and back, as with any IPL or laser device, both home and professional based, patients with PCOD may require additional treatments in order to obtain the desired results.
In cases of hyperthyroidism, there is increased hair distributed all over the body, not only in male pattern areas. Still, there is no reason that the me cannot be used, however the results will depend on how well the underlying thyroid disease is controlled.
